The 20/40 Challenge at the Odgepodge Gallery has started and there is great excitement here as the dogs come to life. The weather in our area has be very hot so staying indoors with the art is easier to do.
The Odgepodge Gallery in old town Sherwood presents “HOT AUGUST ART!” Adam Rose, photographer, will be our featured artist for August and will give you views of local life and places. Come meet him at the gallery during our Second Saturday art walk. Second Saturday Artists will be located at several old town businesses and the Sherwood Saturday market.
The Second Annual 20/40 Challenge is underway with a great response from area artists. Twenty artists have started the challenge which will run until September 4th. The grand viewing will be September 12, at the gallery from 10-5p. The 20/40 Challenge was started in this Sherwood gallery last year with the participation of 8 artists. The artists must each produce 20 new pieces of art in 40 days; each piece must fit the 8X8 inch board format that is distributed by the gallery. The artist may use any medium that will work with this format and all pieces must relate to a pre-stated theme. The goal was always 20 artist/20 pieces/40 days and we are excited that we have achieved that this year with artists in the wings.

The Odgepodge Gallery in Sherwood, Oregon where I show most of my work has re-opened. We have given the inside a new face and hope that all who enter will feel the excitement of the artists involved in this small town gallery. I will be posting some new works to this blog in the next few days so keep checking.

20/40 Challenge'08; I learned alot from this exercise. Painting small and organizing my time for my art proved to be valuable. My theme this year was In Flight. I have a year to come up with my 09 theme as the artists have decided to do this again. This means 20 pieces in 40 days.

Starting the new year with a complete gallery of works. This blog is an adventure and the learning curve is a mountain at this point but 2009 will be the year I smooth out the edges and get everything up for your viewing pleasure.

This floral painting done a couple years ago is displayed in a little gallery in Sherwood, Oregon called Odgepodge. I love looking at it and finding new perspectives that I could not see when I was painting it. I did learn alot from this one, mostly that I prefer smaller bouquets for painting. It is for sale.

The windmills were done this summer following my trip to Europe and a visit to the Netherlands. Truly inspiring countyside. I did have a chance to visit some museums when I was there and have a "painting" lesson just studying the brushwork of the masters; Rembrandt and the gang.

This beautiful butterfly inspired me. I never planned on selling her but when my equally beautiful sister wanted butterflies I couldn't denie that my sister should be the owner. The symbol of rebirth presented in the magnificence of butterfly wings is inspiring and soulful.

The beach

The Oregon coast is a beautiful place any time of year. Sunny beaches brings smiles from children building castles, windy beaches bring out the kites that soar to challenge the wind and the pilot, wintery storms call for cozy accomodations, tea and a good book. Whenever you can get away the beach is a destination and that is why when asked to paint something for the Middle school in Sherwood I chose an Oregon beach. The beaches here are often quiet and private, they are rocky and have their own character.

Yes, it is about time to hear from this artist. The 20/40 Challenge was a great success and I will post photos soon. Our gallery in Sherwood will repeat this event in 2009 with increased artist participation as we have generated alot of excitement. Computer challenges have slowed down my blog building but I will catch up with paintings soon. Please stay tuned....

A Challenge Update

I am filled with the excitement of creating and have 20 pieces in varying stages. The time is passing quickly and I feel that I am pacing myself well and allowing my child to play in these paintings. Some will be more interesting than beautiful and others pure whimsy but my joy is found in this adventure. Two more weeks and we will be getting ready for our September 13th show at Old Town Arts & More.

20/40 Challenge
